Initially trained as a pianist, Hélène Dautry turned later to cello, developing very quickly an exceptional record that led her after only five years to the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris where she studied cello with Maurice Gendron and chamber music with Jean Hubeau. After being awarded an exceptional first prize as cellist, she earned a postgraduate degree in chamber music in the class of Jean Mouillière.
Prize winner of the International Maurice Ravel Academy, Hélène Dautry was invited to play under conductors such as Jean-Pierre Wallez, Frédéric Chaslin, Patrick Fournillier, Peter Csaba ...
During her twelve years as principal cello of the Jean-François Paillard Chamber Orchestra, she had the opportunity to perform as a soloist in the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Consequently she was solo cello of the Besançon Orchestra for ten years, conducted by Peter Csaba.
Member of Geister Trio and Léonore Trio, she also shared the stage with many artists such as Catherine Collard, Edson Elias, Jean-Claude Van den Eyden, Romano Pallottini, Hugues Leclère, Jérôme Ducros, Jérôme Pernoo, Pierre Fouchenneret, Radu Blidar,
Jean-Marc Philipps ..., performing at several festivals: La Roque d'Anthéron, Midi Minimes in Brussels, Les Arcs, Young Soloists in Perigord, Nancyphonies, Musicalta, International Music Meetings in Graves, Academies Festival of Colmar, Music'Alp Festival ...
Since 2012, Hélène Dautry is a regular guest of the Cello Arte Festival with Bruno Rigutto Sergio Lamberto, Geneviève Teulières-Sommer, Pierre-Henri Xuereb, Giacomo Fuga ...
In addition to her concert career, she is a renowned pedagogue, as cello Professor at several institutions: Conservatoire de Région de Paris, Pôle Supérieur Paris-Boulogne, Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris and Royal College of Music in London. As part of a tribute to Maurice Gendron she was invited to give a master class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 2002. She also gave public lessons in St. Petersburg, Minsk, CRR Lyon, the Master Class at the Château de La Roche Guyon ...
She has recently recorded an album with pianist Bruno Rigutto dedicated to works of Franck, Schumann and Debussy which will be released under the label Lyrinx in the near future.
Recognized as one outstanding personality of her generation, Hélène Dautry is passionate about the transmission and sharing of music.
