The artistic approach of Laurent Cabasso, privileges a great freedom of expression but also a deep respect of the style and the spirit of the works, giving to his play the sincere and authentic dimension which characterizes it.

First Prize of Piano and Chamber Music of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 18, he was a student of Yvonne Loriod, Jean Hubeau, Ventsislav Yankoff and Christian Ivaldi. As part of the developmental cycle, he also took courses from Nikita Magaloff, György Sebok, György Sandor and Norbert Brainin. He then perfected himself with the great pedagogue and disciple of Arthur Schnabel, Maria Curcio-Diamand.

Winner of major international competitions (Prix Géza Anda of Zürich in 1982, Tokyo in 1983, finalist of the competition Clara Haskil in Vevey in 1987) he began a major musical career.

Laurent Cabasso gives numerous recitals and concerts in European halls (Theatre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Pleyel, Tonhalle, Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Victoria Hall, Festspielhaus of Salzburg ...) and in the Festivals of Roque d'Anthéron, Piano to the Jacobins, Besançon, Montpellier, America and Asia ... He was named by the Chopin Festival in Paris as one of the ten pianists "godfathers" of the integral Chopin which was given on the occasion of the bi-centenary of the composer in 2010, during the "Bon Anniversaire Monsieur Chopin" days in Châteauroux and Paris and on television on France 3.

Under the direction of Ch. Dutoit, F. Leitner, A. Jordan, T. Varga, S. Baudo, E. Krivine, M. Plasson, JC Casadesus, he performs as a soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Monte-Carlo Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre National de Lille ...

Passionated about chamber music, he is a valued and sought-after partner. He performs regularly alongside the best musicians of today: Sonia Wieder-Atherton, Alexandre Tharaud, Gerard Poulet, Raphael Oleg, Vadim Repin, the Rosamonde quartets, Sine Nomine, Arpeggione and Enesco, Laurent Korcia, Philippe Bernold, Ariane Granjon, Mireille Delunsch, Gaetane Prouvost, Sylvia Marcovici ...

His interpretations of Schumann's music, unanimously hailed by the critics, show a particular affinity for his work. Nevertheless, Laurent Cabasso is an eclectic musician, open to a wide repertoire ranging from Scarlatti to the music of our time.

Faithful to his approach to music, his discography includes about fifteen records that go from Beethoven to Shostakovich and are the subject of a warm welcome. He has been awarded several times by the specialized press: Diapason d'Or, ffff de Télérama, "Shock" of the World of Music, "Joker" of Crescendo, selected in Le Monde among the "best records of the year", but also "Grand Prix du disque" of the Académie du disque français.

His latest recording, dedicated to Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and Schubert's Wanderer-Fantaisie, which was released by Naïve in late 2011, is unanimously praised by the press. The disc is selected by France Musique, Classica (his Variations Diabelli elected best version during a blind listening in June 2015) and by Télérama (ffff) where Gilles Macassar writes:

His recording is obvious from the outset with such strong evidence, such an impression of "that's it", that we are certain to have a landmark interpretation. A reference version? Better: a supremely personal commitment, at once fully free and scrupulously exact!

A committed artist, Laurent Cabasso also strives to introduce music to those who do not have immediate access and does not hesitate to put his talent to the service of humanitarian causes.

Laurent Cabasso teaches at the Conservatoires Nationaux Supérieurs de Musique de Paris et de Lyon, and at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional  de Strasbourg (Strasbourg Academy of Music) since 1993. He regularly gives master-classes in France and abroad.
