Louis Spohr Musikforum – Braunschweig

In-kun Park, born 1974 in Seoul (South Korea), received his first piano lesson from his mother when he was four. Moved to Germany, he got from 1981 lessons with Ilse Mentrup on the city. Conservatory Osnabrück. In the same year he also started to play the violin.

In 1989 he continued piano lessons with Prof. Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Musikhochschule Hannover. In 1990 and 1992 he won first prizes at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" in the subject piano solo combined with the special prize for the best interpretation of a classical work. Also 1st prizes he received in 1991 and 1993 at the Grotrian Steinweg piano competitions in Braunschweig. In the following years he won prizes and awards at the international piano competitions "Franz Liszt" in Weimar and "Tomassoni" in Cologne. In 1997 he was invited by the Wilhelm Kempff Foundation in Positano to a Beethoven interpretation course with Prof. John O'Conor (Dublin).

As a scholarship holder of the German Music Competition 2001 in Berlin, he was accepted into the Federal Selection of Young Artists and committed to around 25 concerts in the 2002/2003 season. The following year, he undertook a concert tour in Korea at the invitation of the Kumho Group (Kumho Culture).

Since 1998 he has been conductor of the Louis Spohr Orchestra Braunschweig. From 2003 to 2005 he also directed the Wolfsburg Chamber Orchestra. Since 2008 he is artistic. Head and managing director of the institution "Louis Spohr Musikforum Braunschweig e.V.".

Park was u.a. Fellow of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, the Edwin Fischer Fellowship Fund, the Marie-Luise-Imbusch Foundation and the Int. Brunswick chamber music podium. Numerous concerts in Germany and abroad, radio recordings at the NDR, WDR, BR, KBS (Korean Broadcasting) and a CD production round off the previous path.

Since 1997 Park teaches a piano class at the city. Music School Braunschweig. In addition, he was an assistant professor of Prof. Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Musikhochschule Hannover from 2000 to 2002 as part of a teaching assignment. So far, numerous winners of various competitions have emerged from his class, i.a. 1st-3rd Prizewinner of the federal competitions "Jugend musiziert" in the field of solo piano and in the ensemble rating. Since 2012 he has been the section leader of the piano section.
